Clara is an app that keeps the records of small businesses in Nigeria. Your records are your business, so this page says, in plain words, what we keep, why, who helps us keep it, and what you can ask us to do. Clara follows the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Who we are
Clara is run by Iyebiye Olatokun in Nigeria. For anything about your data, write to hello@clara.ng.
What we keep
- If you asked for a beta place or a demo on this website: your name, business name, kind of business, email and WhatsApp number.
- When you use the app: your phone number or Google account (to sign you in), your business details, and the records you save: sales, spending, stock, orders, customers and their phone numbers, debts, receipts and your logo.
- What you send Clara: your chat messages, voice notes and receipt photos, so Clara can read them into records for you to check.
- On this website: Google Analytics counts visits (pages seen, rough location, type of device) using cookies. It is not used for advertising.
- Visits, on this website and in the app: Vercel Web Analytics or Cloudflare Web Analytics (whichever hosts the page) counts which pages and screens are opened, roughly from where and on what type of device, without cookies. It never sees what you type or save in Clara.
Why we keep it
- To run Clara for you: keep your records, work out your figures and show them only to you and the staff you invite.
- To contact you about your account, a demo you asked for, or a problem with your account.
- To make Clara better and safer, for example finding the messages Clara misread.
We never sell your data, and we never use your records to advertise to you or to anyone else.
Who helps us
A few trusted companies run parts of Clara for us. They only use your data to do that job for Clara.
- Google Firebase: sign-in and storing your records.
- Vercel, Cloudflare and Google Cloud: run this website, the app and Clara’s server, and count visits to the website and the app (Vercel or Cloudflare Web Analytics, without cookies).
- AI services that read your messages: Anthropic (Claude) first; Groq, Google Gemini, OpenRouter and NVIDIA as backups when it is busy. Voice notes are turned into text by Groq, and receipt photos are read by Google Gemini. Some backup services on free plans may use what they receive to improve their own AI; we are moving to plans that do not.
- Google Analytics: counting visits to this website.
These companies may keep data on servers outside Nigeria. We choose services that protect data to a high standard.
How long we keep it
Your records stay as long as you have a Clara account, because they are your business history. You can delete your account and records yourself at any time in the app (More → Delete my account); it happens at once. If you ask us instead, we delete them within 30 days. Beta requests we cannot accept are deleted within 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the data we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and records;
- give you a copy of your records (you can also download them yourself in the app, as a PDF or spreadsheet);
- stop contacting you.
Write to hello@clara.ng and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Keeping it safe
Your records can only be read by you and the staff you invite, and staff only see what their role allows. Every connection is encrypted. Saved records cannot be edited or deleted from a phone; a correction is added as a new record. We do not store passwords: you sign in with a code sent to your phone, or with Google.
Children
Clara is for business owners and their staff, and is not meant for anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your records, we will tell you in the app first.
